On Wednesday, January 22, 2020, the European Parliament's Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee will hold a meeting during which the European Commission will present the evaluation report on the implementation of Construction Products Regulation and further plans.
A review of the Construction Products Regulation was first announced in 2016, following the publication in July 2016 of an implementation report.
Since then, the European Commission has consulted with stakeholders, collected evidence, and published two supporting studies. The collection of evidence included the studies on a European approach to assessing facades' fire performance and on the toxicity of smoke from construction products in fires.
The European Commission announced in its Communication on The European Green Deal in December 2019 that the Construction Products Regulation will be reviewed. The January 22 meeting of the Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO) Committee could give important insight into how the European Commission will roll out this project.
The Construction Products regulation is a key regulation for fire safety in the EU, and its review could provide opportunities to further improve fire safety.
